ARE YOU CRAZY?

Last weekend, when most of us were lying prone with wet flannels round our necks, air-con and fans on full blast, ice water with arm's reach, unable to move, speak, or even think in the sweltering ridiculous heat, there was a team of determined young women out and about preparing for the race of their lives.
|
|
The Swellendam Adventure Girls - Fleur van Eeden, Kat Coetzee, Lynnie Jorge and Ingrid Olivier are in training for the 24 hours 120 km in the first event of the 2022 Adventure Racing World Series, which kicks off in Swellendam, 4- 6 February at Kam'bati River Resort.

The race consists of 4 disciplines: mountain biking, trekking, kayaking and orienteering. The SA Girls will be expected to navigate using a map and landmarks in whatever weather conditions are thrown at them, stopping at control points. They will travel through the night making their own decisions about resting. They must complete the entire distance together (always within hearing and visual distance of each other), helping and assisting each other, so teamwork is crucial.

Many of us in Swellendam are lucky enough to know these intrepid females and we know of their indomitable spirits, courage and determination - we are rooting for them and, of course, ALL the Swellendam teams taking part.

What an honour to have such a prestigious event taking place in our beautiful area.
