SA OLIVE AWARDS 2021- DOUBLE GOLD

We are excited to share that our XXV Intense and Premium Medium Extra Virgin Olive Oil were awarded GOLD at the 2021 annual SA Olive Awards that took place yesterday.

- We are now diverting organic material on the Bontebok landfill that will be chipped when we have enough quantity. Please deliver clean organic material, no general waste to be mixed in. Builders Rubble will also be diverted and crushed for use on roads when we have enough quantity. Please deliver clean builders material, no general waste or metal to be mixed in
- Two groups of formal pickers are taking a lot of recycling material out of the landfill. This is not the ideal situation but until we pick up recycling from houses or educate everyone to take it to a central location it is the best we have.
- A new recycling company, ConnectEcco, has started in Swellendam and they have big plans.
- We have an illegal dumping team working full time responding to our illegaldumping@swellenmun.co.za email. (if you send a mail, include a photo, location, and details of the illegal dumping)
- An invasive species task team will start this month, they will remove invasive alien trees from the town and surrounds
- We are planning a Green Swellendam environmental campaign focusing on the environment, recycling, public street cleaning, littering and all things sustainability.
- The Swellendam Municipality Environmental Forum is being formulated, We will have our first meeting when we get to level 2. Thank you all for caring about the environment and our town.

Magpie is hosting another "turn your trash into art" Workshop online on the 18th September at 4pm
|
|
This is a Flower Making Workshop and we will demonstrate online how to transform PET plastic bottles into beautiful plastic flowers. You can simply watch, or if you are brave, join the session online with your PET bottles, a pair of sharp scissors (we will show you how to cut), some beads, lids and bobs, and some coathanger thin wire!
|
|
We will also touch on painting the completed flower, so if you have some poster paint (and bonding liquid if you want to make the paint durable and stickable to the plastic) and some koki permanent markers we will discuss decoration.
|
|
This Workshop is a collaboration with Quakers who are sponsoring the connection - they have a huge interest in Climate Justice and Environmental Concerns and some of the youth will join us and participate in making flowers as part of an online response to the upcoming UN COP 26 Climate Conference in Glasgow.
