Situated in the picturesque own of Swellendam, this national heritage building dates back to 1832 and is set amongst large, established oak trees. It has recently been restored to a gem of an establishment.

The town is originally named after Governor Hendrik Swellengrebel and his wife Helena ten Damme. Hendrik Swellengrebel the son of a Russian, Jan Swellengrebel, was the 1 st South African born governor of the Cape in 1739 and was well liked.De Companjie offers a luxurious retreat for the sophisticated traveler.
