Southern Overberg Botanical Society

Dear Swellendammers, old and new At last Swellendam has joined the above branch of BotSoc –  The Botanical Society of SA having been a 111 year institution for the conservation of especially indigenous flora, and branches like ours conserving the Cape Floral Kingdom (indirectly all biodiversity that goes with it). You are most welcome to join by signing on at www, – and please check what is all about.   Being a BotSoc member opens doors to making friends with like-minded nature lovers from all over the Overberg: from Pearly Beach to Greyton to Barrydale to Potberg to Agulhas, Bredasdorp, Napier. We go on fieldtrips together, often accompanied by knowledgeable botanists who teach us about the fynbos genera and species.  We even learn about the soil and geology of certain habitats and biomes.  It gives us the freedom to explore many sides and places in the Overberg – many of which you would otherwise never see!   You will receive emails regarding opportunities to join hikes/attend interesting talks/attend Zoom presentations as well as access to the online Veld and Flora magazine, filled with interesting articles and beautiful photographs. You will also get books at discount from the Kirstenbosch Bookshop. You don’t have to know biology or botany – most of us are amateur botanists, citizen scientists, with the hobby to wander around in nature being aware that there is so much to learn! Join soon – you will love it. Your local representative Willemina van der Harst de Wet Executive Chair, SO BotSoc branch
