A Klein Karoo weekend getaway for flower lovers and gardeners 🌸🌺🌼

This year’s flower season is expected to be a grand affair, thanks to the fabulous rains that have graced the region. To celebrate this, there will be an annual open garden safari through the villages of Barrydale and Smitsville. But wait, there’s more! 🎉

The event will feature informative talks by the well-known plant guru Dr Ernst van Jaarsveld, who will share his vast knowledge. There will also be guided tours through veld, medicinal, and community vegetable gardens. And if that’s not enough, you can experience the magic of Flowerscape with TV florist celebrity Jill Manson. 🌷

But that’s not all! You can also look forward to a long table botanical dinner evening, a tea garden market, botanical art exhibitions, and a guided labyrinth walk in one of the 8 labyrinths around Barrydale. 🌿

This is a fundraising event, with an auction, raffle tickets, and scarecrows to bid on. All the proceeds will go to Barrydale Hospice, a wonderful way to give back to the community. 🙏

For just R600, you can get a full weekend ticket that gives you access to talks, garden map, guided tours, Mad Hatter’s G & Tea party, long table botanical dinner, guided labyrinth walk, and circle dance. Please note that the Flowerscape Experience and Cyanotype Printing Workshop are separate costs. You can find the program on the website www.barrydaleinbloom.com. 🌻

The Flowerscape Experience with Jill Manson, celebrity florist of the TV show Fresh Cut, is a two-and-a-half-hour workshop that will take place on Saturday, October 7th, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The workshop is priced at R650

This workshop is a journey of self-discovery that connects you with flowers, plants, and the healing energy of Mother Nature. It includes a walking meditation to forage foliage, flowers, and creative elements like bark and wood. Each person will receive a personal message from Jill according to the flowers and earth elements they chose. It’s a beautiful way to find balance in your life and realign to your most powerful self. 🌿

After the meditation, you will creatively play to arrange the foliage and flowers in a centerpiece on the tables for the long table botanical dinner. Please bring your own pair of secateurs and/or flower scissors

The Cyanotype Printing Workshop with Barrydale artist Nicole Huke is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and is priced at R300 1.

This fun and creative process uses the sun’s UV light to make a photogram and is an alternative printing method that was invented in 1842. You will collect grasses, flowers, and leaves to produce a creative momento. All materials will be provided, and the workshop is suitable for beginners. Cyanotype printing kits will be on sale
