Langeberg Hospice in Swellendam and surrounding areas provides quality palliative and home- based care to patients and their families in their homes.

Patients who have life threatening and life limiting illnesses can access Palliative Holistic care from the Palliative trained Nursing Sister.

Holistic care includes physical, spiritual and psychosocial care.

All patients are referred to Hospice and visited by the Nursing Sister within 48 hours.

Palliative care involves assessment and management of physical, spiritual and psychosocial pain.

We are in search of a Registered Nurse and Staff/Assistant Nurse to render and promote cost effective, safe, quality palliative patient care in accordance with Hospice standards and policies.

The team members will further be responsible for assessing, planning, executing and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs.

Work hours required are as follows:

  • 1. Registered Nurse – 40 hours per week.
  • 2. Staff/Assistant Nurse – 20 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Working within a Palliative care team and providing Palliative care and Home based care at the patients home.
  • Responding to new referrals within 48 hours and completing a Holistic assessment of the referred patient.
  • Completion of a Holistic care plan and provision of interventions in line with patient needs.
  • Educate patient and family on Palliative End of Life Care.
  • Management of pain and other symptoms with the patient, family and visitors ensure continuity of care.
  • Provision of Bereavement support.
  • Accurate record keeping and stats management ..

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Bilingual – English and Afrikaans
  • Active Registration with South African National Nursing Council.
  • Palliative Care Trained would be an advantage or willingness to complete training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently or as part of a team.
  • Compassionate, with a patient-centred approach.
  • Willingness to participate in training.
  • Community nursing and palliative care experience/interest would be a recommendation.
  • A valid driver’s license with minimum 3 years driving experience.
