 Junior Accountant

Short Summary: 

The main responsibility of this position is to take responsibility for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyse financial information and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures as well as assisting with monthly closings and account analysis. The incumbent will be required to perform a variety of general business support administrative duties to various divisions in the Southern Oil (Pty) Ltd group of companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation journal entries
  • Monthly closings
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare analysis of accounts as requested
  • Assist with month-end and year- end closings
  • Provide assistance to accounts receivable and accounts payable departments
  • Assist with payroll administration
  • Monitor and resolve unidentified bank account transactions
  • Bank and cash reconciliations
  • Assist with coordination of the annual audit process
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
  • Assistance with stock related queries
  • Monitor and ensures compliance with statutory reporting requirements

Key Competencies:

Education and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (Accounting/Commerce)
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Knowledge of finance principles
  • Knowledge of financial reporting
  • Extensive knowledge of accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Technical accounting skills
  • Proficiency in the use of an ERP System preferably SAP

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in a similar role
