The fragrance of Heritage roses is the first of many delights which unfold as you enter the garden of The Hideaway – aptly named, because as the garden gate clangs shut behind you, you find yourself warmly embraced by beauty and tranquility, in a magical space where you are able to hide away from the real world.
‘The Hideaway’ has always had a wonderful reputation – it was, in fact, the first B and B in South Africa to achieve a 5 star rating from the Tourism Grading Council. The breathtaking changes that have taken place since that time should now qualify the place for an extra couple of stars – if that were only possible!
British owners, Stephen and Jackie have quietly developed The Hideaway from a cosy, traditional, comfortable accommodation, into a chic, welcoming, retreat – with an eco-pool, a spa, yoga sessions, and the most amazing fresh healthy breakfasts, served in their ‘boma’ overlooking the pool.
Along with most of Swellendam, The Hideaway enjoys magnificent views of the Langeberg Mountains, and your heart and spirit are lifted as you sit and drink your glass of local wine and lap up the pleasures that surround you.
Next door neighbours David Schlapobersky and Felicity Potter, internationally renowned potters, are fully integrated into this wonderful retreat – guests can wander from the pool area into the studio and watch these gifted artists at work, or even have a ‘throw’ under the kind and gentle eye of the distinguished David.
Next time you feel the need to Hide Away from the world – this is truly the place to make it happen
