Congratulations to Debrahano Plaatjies, who, amongst other successful local athletes, was a shining star at the Boland Athletics Leage at the Dal Josaphat Stadium, Paarl this weekend. Just turned 18, he took first place in the Under 25 mens 400m. Now he is setting his eyes on Athletics South Africa later this year.
He is ranked 4th in South Africa, 4th in AFRICA and 43 in the World, boys under 18, 400m. Currently a learner at Worcester Gymnasium, Debrin is part of a small group of young people from Swellendam, Railton with disadvantaged backgrounds who are being mentored locally. These athletes trained all by themselves throughout lockdown and showed impressive form in their respective events. The will to succeed can be seen in their positive approach, even when they run against all odds.
