CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: NINA AND SALVATORE from LA SOSTA

These sweet buns originate in Italy, specifically from Lazio, but they date back to ancient Rome.
The name, “Maritozzo” is a cute way to say husband and it was tradition that the future husband would give his girlfriend this pastry as a sign of his love and could also hide a ring inside. The sugar glaze symbolized two trapped hearts.
