The Swellendam Lockdown Quilt Challenge

SWELLENDAM LOCKDOWN QUILT CHALLENGE
Rita Van Vollenstee

I have an idea for something we, as a town, can do over lockdown since this is such a huge, almost unprecedented thing to go through (during our lifetime).

Do you remember the AIDS Quilt that was started in the early 80s?
Let’s create a Swellendam Lockdown Quilt

Each family does a piece (or a piece per member of the family) and depicts in words, pics, etc. what they are feeling, doing during lockdown.   What you need:
A piece of fabric
( If everyone makes a square then piecing it together will be simpler –
no smaller than 50cm sq, ideal size 1m sq, but as long as its square! )

  • Calico is nice to use and cheap.
  • Some paint, perhaps transfer paper to transfer photos, etc
  • Embroidering cotton
  • Fabric flowers
  • Perhaps small fluffy toys
  • Or maybe someone just wants to write their own story, poem on the fabric and decorate around the words.

Whatever! Create! When this is all over, we will collect the pieces, put them together and exhibit them.
