Sijnn Wines are delighted to offer their first mountain bike weekend!
The Sijnn winery is situated in a beautiful part of the Overberg with the De Hoop Nature Reserve on the doorstep and the Breede River below. The route will be approx. 70km and mostly single track around the Potberg mountain (the wonderful view from the Sijnn tasting room patio). This is a relatively new and unknown route, intersecting with the more famous Whale Trail, and Niel Neethling, a local farmer whose brainchild it was, will lead the group.
It is important to note that this is not a race and the whole trail will be done as a group at everyone’s own pace and stopping at regular intervals to allow the slower riders to catch up and everyone to smell the fynbos, renosterbos and the sea breeze.
Winemaker Charla Haasbroek (featured in Edition 5 of the Swellengram) and her husband Casper will be riding alongside and David will be around in a bakkie to pick up any stragglers and providing lunch and refreshments at certain points. The cycling is really just an excuse to burn calories so you can enjoy plenty of delicious food and wine, which will be in abundance. In addition, for partners, not keen to brave the cycle tour we’ve arranged a pottery class, demo and lunch at the Bukkenberg Studio in Swellendam.
6.00pm: Welcome and briefing at Tides. 4 course food and wine evening with some international and local benchmark wines with our Sijnn wines of Malgas.
Saturday 20 October: an early start at 7.00am with a light breakfast for cyclists and leave around 8.00am from Tides on your epic journey! Those doing the pottery outing (or their own thing) will have a more leisurely start and leave for Swellendam at 9.00am and be back around 4.00pm
6.00pm: An informal, relaxing braai in the boma at Tides with plenty of Sijnn wine and a few cold one’s for the weary legs!
