First Fridays Swellendam is a monthly celebration of local culture — a community-powered evening where creativity spills into the streets, galleries stay open late, and the town lights up with art, food, wine and a vibe. On the first Friday of every month, artists, shops, eateries, and studios across Swellendam open their doors after hours to welcome locals and visitors alike into spaces filled with soul. From contemporary galleries and historic homes to cafés and thrift shops and boutiques.

At its heart, First Fridays is powered by a grassroots spirit – no big budgets, just people
saying yes to showing up. This is a night for curious feet and open senses — it’s about
moving through the town, stopping for a slice here, a sip there, a spark of inspiration
around the corner, wandering from one venue to the next. Trying a snack at one café, a
drink at another, lingering briefly in a gallery before drifting to thrift.
